Hotel La Amistad

  • This hotel is one of the better deals in SJO. The rooms are generally quiet and comfortable (aside from the odd train) and breakfast is included, and quite tasty, as is the rest of their food. Matt, the owner, is a bit of a drinker, but the staff is great and Rudy, the front guy speaks great English and is really helpful. The hotel is one block away from Sportsmens, so easy access to the girls down there and it's cheaper than Sportsmens, as well as much easier to book. Be careful with room selection here, and always ask for a room with an outside window, as there are some windowless inner rooms. Just asking for a window may get you a room with only an inner window onto the stairwell, and those are noisy, so make sure you ask carefully! lol.

This is a great hotel, and well recommended by many users. This is one of my go to hotels when I'm in SJO, and discounts are available through another site which will not be mentioned. extra discounts are available for extended stays

if you send emails then send them anytime, but if you're going to call do it during daytime hours because Rudy speaks great English and he always knows what's going on. The night guy is nice but fairly useless, and Matt, the owner, is also fine during the day but may be drinking in the evenings and less likely to be helpful. Everybody there is nice.

  • Shadow, our group of 4 concurs with your report based on our recent visit 2 weeks ago (see my trip report). I believe the "all inclusive" that they offer on their site trumps all other discount offers including the IFTC and the local CRT offerings. However, La Amistad is a heavy advertiser on CRT along with SL and Mona Lisa and a few other places. You can't combine discounts on top of their current AI offering to the best of my knowledge. If anybody's experience has been different please advise the board. With their recent purchase of El Castillo located around the corner from Sportmens and a few doors away from New Fantasy MP, our group's consensus is we'd try there next time. According to our conversation and guided tour of Castillo with one of the owners of LA, mentioned in my report, their plan to allow guests at either hotel to eat/drink at either location regardless of where your room is, is a great idea under their all inclusive business model. We hope that they don't later deviate from that plan. Heavy construction/renovation work was underway during our tour and the owner stated they would like to be open by April of this year. So keep that in mind everybody and that it's a bit closer walk to Del Rey and scores is another added plus.
