Sosua Hotels "Chica Friendly"

  • Before I went to Sosua for the first time, I had no idea of where to stay or go.  I thought it would be a good idea for newbies to have an ongoing list of hotels/web sights to help em out. Here's a start, please add on and leave comments positive/negative to help the next person out. A trip can be ruined by a bad hotel choice. ;D

  • Great list - would be nice to add a brief description - decent rooms/beds, chica situation, staff helpful/friendly, security good, loud party place or what... etc - just a few things they might not mention on their websites, but would be good to know.
For example, I read that Rocky's used to be the expat hangout but now it might be New Garden???

  • [New Garden].
-Basic accommodations. There's an old side and new renovated side. You have to ask and specify for your reservation.   Old side is really outdated, old furniture, old tv, old beds and mattresses. Both sides have safes. Chicas are allowed on the premises at the pool/bar area. New Garden is the monger hangout spot. Lots of different DR sites meet there. Cheap prices, but if you are accustomed to better amenities, choose the new side if available. Free breakfast and maid service is pretty good. You might want to request an upper level if you want peace and quiet, bc there is usually a lot of action at the pool/bar.  Bring extra towels!!!! Chicas will use em and then your stuck with a dirty ass towel, and house keeping doesn't like to give extras, lol ;D. Around the block from the strip. Money due for hotel asked to be paid when your leaving. Friendly Staff, the old manager there was great, there is a new manager now.  New Garden is like a college dorm freshman year, lol. :).

[Terra Linda]. More upscale. Newer furniture, beds, modern tv's. A very quiet hotel. Guests are allowed, but one per guest. Chicas are not allowed in without patron. Big pool, nice size rooms. This hotel can be expensive in comparison to others on the same street. They tend to charge almost double of some otheres. Maid service is not the greatest. They won't give you extra towels. Free breakfast, clean looking hotel environment.  Clean modern looking bathrooms. Friendly staff. Money due for rooms when you check in. Laundry service available. Around the block from the strip. Better value for your money is out there, but you can't go wrong here if money is not an issue.

  • Here you go:
Don Andres: Dutch/Belgian management, Dominican staff, very helpful and friendly. Dutch kitchen but Dominican drinks (no Heineken or Amstel, but Presidente), modest but clean hotel. Rooms have AC/vents. Wifi in bar. Small swimming pool. Choices can be made between rooms or small appartments including kitchenette.
Having read the above statement about the towels. I saw this problem arise in the morning at Don Andres and asked the barman. He arranged extra towels by ordering a maid. She wasn't to pleases (had to walk all the way to the upper floor (laundry room), did it anyway and handed me two extra towels at no extra charge.

Very chica friendly (need to leave ID at bar, that's all). Some girls look for company at bar. In the evenings tourists from nearby hotels/resorts visit the bar and escape their own 'closed' resort. Bar stays open till at least 02.00 am.

Funny note: the owner of the hotel (Henry) grew up in the Dutch village of Maaskantje, a village known by every Dutchman. This because of an over the top movie/series about a few hilbilly, idiotic, backward boys using the word kut (cunt) almost in every sentence being shot in this town.

i would say rockys is still more of an expat hangout than new garden even though many of them do stop by the new garden.

you will find many of the expats at rockys for breakfast in the mornings.   they meet there along with their buds that travel down and stay

  • Most members here won't give a s... But for us Dutch (and some other Europeans) this sounds very good: Don Andres now will screen live games from the Dutch Eredivisie and the Europa League.

  • I recommend Hotel D'Piero.  It's located on the street behind Passions and is guest friendly.  I stayed there in April 2010 and I'm staying there on my next trip in May-June.  They have standard rooms and 1 bedroom condo-like flats.  Both include AC, cable TV, safe, and price includes airport pickup and breakfast.

Nah, man D'Piero is located on the other side of town on the same block as Passions but one street back.  Your thinking of Casa Valeria which is located between New Garden and Tierra Linda.  I don't think Casa Valeria is guest friendly.

Casa Valeria is semi guest friendly. You can take a chica to and from your room but you cannot hang with her on your balcony/patio or around the pool. The restaurant is excellent and treated me and my guest well. D'Piero Is a bit of a walk from time but very nice. The one bedroom flats are a good deal.

Had a bad experience with hotel d'piero. They emailed and canceled our reservation 3 weeks before we were supposed to be there and left us scrambling for hotels during the busy season. They claimed that a reservation had been made prior to ours and had never been written down even though ours was made 5 months in advance. Rick over at Rockys did take care of us though so I would also recommend there.

  • Worst part about them over booking is that there really isn't much you can do. You can argue with them all day, but they still won't compensate you for their mistake. That's the last thing you want to worry about right before your trip. >:(

  • I heard from some forums on Dominican travel  that at casa marina resort you might be able to bring in a chica for a daytime fee ; cause apparently some guests there said they"ve seen the odd older guys in there with very  young girls ; I'll let you know later in march as I;m going to be staying there and will keep this board posted from a internet cafe
