I am interested in an extra space additional to a bed area, a sitting room or  sittingb area, or something like that with a fridge, AC, pool and security. Closeness to downtown area between Duarte and Dr. Rosen. I do not want a dump.

Apart from the stories of Casa Cayena and their mysterious safe issues are there any reasons why to stay or not stay there?

From all I have talked to, listened to and read from is that Ricks properties aka Rockys hotels and condos - are secure, close to the action, well run, great value, but a little old and a little noisy at night. As far as Sosua Suites they seem close to everything. Is it too loud there? Is it nice or just blah? The Mary Rose condos are a little hike when carrying alot of scuba gear and underwater camera gear. I do like the 2 bedroom condo configuration, but is it a little inconvenient? A great place for 4 guys in 2 condos at a great place. I do like Ricks attitude and willingness to want things right for his guests.

Cuba Dave recommends the Sea Breeze - and its cheap. That is all I know about that place.

El Rancho was recommended to me by a hotel that was full... again no more info.

I do not give a shit what the girls want. It's about me, not them.

If any of you veterans can help it would be great, plus I see free drinks in your future! I am a veteran in Thailand, Indonesia and especially the Philippines. South East Asia in my sweet spot and comfort zone. Howvvever after 30+ trips in the last 7 years from 2 weeks to 5 weeks - I am getting sick of the 30 hour travel in comparison to the 5 hours to get to the Puerta Plata airport.

HELP!

If diving is a priority, the Coco has a private beach with access to the main snorkeling area around, the five rocks(I think) Every day, just about 100 yards out from the beach, dive boats, catamarans, and snorkeling boats were tied up out there. They have one premium apartment there, the rest are basic single rooms. It's just a block from the Mary Rose. If it were me, and it was a group of four, I might get an apt at the Coco for the reef and beach access, and a room at the Mary Rose for hanging out.

I am not a veteran - two trips to the Su, first time at New Garden, second at Casa Cayena - but I went scuba-diving both of my trips, and like you, I bring my own gear.

Casa Cayena and New Garden are about equidistant from the beach, hiking down Alejo Martinez. It wasn't quite a ten minute walk for me. I'd recommend either. New Garden is bigger, and it's Monger Central; if you're looking for someone to 'wing up' with, NG might be your best choice. Casa Cayena is less than half their size, but Wilfried and his staff took great care of me. (In other news, Wilfried has announced that he's got all new safes installed in every room, big enough for laptops - and he has the only lockout-override key; no one else will have access.)

Sosua Bay isn't the greatest diving - it's a wash if you're looking for the big guys; there's only the one wreck, the Zingaro, if wrecks are your thing; and it's not as clear as you get around coral islands like the Caymans - but it's darn good diving for a whore town. (Incidentally, Topdeck, we're not talking snorkeling. We're talking scuba.)
