  • Money matters...

Heading to DR for first trip on September 27 and trying to figure out best amount and denomination of money to bring and convert. Some questions...

    - If I estimate low and need additional cash during my trip, are there ATMs available around FOD, and how does the exchange rate compared to other alternatives (am assuming the ATMs pay out in pesos)?

    - To minimize the size of the money roll on the way down, am considering bringing mostly  $100s (US dollar). Is that an issue at the DR exchanges? I remember in Costa Rica, there was some issues with US Dollar bill denominations greater than $20.

    - Similar to my question above, are larger peso denominations (e.g. 2000) an issue at certain establishments?

    - Any other $$$ tips?

    Thanks,
    Aldrich317

  • I don't trust DR ATM's and always bring cash. $100's to cash and $1,$5, $20 to pay for some services and tips. The driver Carlos from FOD will take you to get exchange on your way in if you ask him.

  • When you do exchange money, I would also avoid the 2,000 peso notes since you will barely find places that except them.

  • Hi huskerdude,

Have you had or heard of any problems with the DR ATMs? I was hoping to carry a bit less cash than my estimated needs down with me, rather than a bit more... if I could use a reliable ATM if I fall short.

  • Hi Swizz416,

Thanks for the advice... same thing in Costa Rica denominations greater than $20.
Any problems on the conversion end, i.e. exchanging US $100 bills?

  • You won't have any issues converting the large bills. They are taken readily. As far as the ATMs  others may be able to provide a reliable one but I try not to if possible. You never know when they will run out of cash which can ruin a weekend as banks will not open again until Monday.

  • There is an ATM at playa dorada, across the street from FOD.  The road thru playa dorada makes a big loop and it is at the other end of the loop, across the street from a little strip center. I have used it on almost every trip there and had no issues.  Take a taxi over. It is a long walk.

I've never used one in the DR. I've heard they have some that run out of money, so you are SOL on weekends.

  • I use Bank of America and they have some arrangement with Scotiabank.  I used a Scotiabank ATM in town with no problems.  The only "issue" I had was that I entered $100 (forgetting where I was) and that's exactly what I got -- 100 pesos! LOL  I then took out the real amount I wanted.

PS.  Be sure to tell your bank you might be using your debit/credit cards overseas.

  • Enhancement meds...

How does the quality and prices of the generic meds (e.g. tadalafil (Cialis), sildenafil (Viagra)) in the DR compare to the States? Wondering if should bring my own to stock up in DR? If as good and cheaper, is there a problem stocking up to bring back on return home?

    Thanks,

  • I'm an ex-pharmacist. I always believe in getting generics. I've gotten generic ED meds from Mexico, India, DR and have found no difference. Just buy them from a Farmacia and not off the street.

  • New to all this and considering a trip in September for 7 nights. Question is how many nights at BB and how many at FOD. I was thinking 4 at BB and 3 at FOD but open to ideas guys. Should I spend a night out in one of the other recommended hotels/resorts? and finally if anyone is heading down to the DR and or has any advice for a newbie would be great to hear from you all! Cheers Robin

I wouldn't bother making a reservation at FOD. There never at capacity unless we have a party there. I would do 4 days at BBs. Then make a day trip to FOD. There good to us when we have a party there. However, its rumoured to be pretty dead there now. A lot of our favorites don't work there regularly or only come in during a party.

If you like what you see you can spend the next 3 days. If not you can head back to BBs or check out Sosua.

If your interested in Sosua, I'd check out the Mary Rose Condos.

As a newbie, BBs and FOD keep the girls in line. Sosua is a small town with various bars. The girls are all freelancers. Do your due diligence.

  • One of the senior members (by experience, not age  :motion: ) has a trip booked mid September.  Huskerdude is a legend at both FOD and BB's and I'm sure he wouldn't mind you shadowing a seasoned veteran!

  • Alright.  After reading for the past week here and others I am going to bite the bullet and go.  I am a medium veteran monger but mainly in ASIA/SE Asia while on business trips.  It is my bday august 19th and I plan to spend 6/7 nights.  Probably 18th-24th.  I am thinking FOD/BB since it is just easier even though i speak moderate spanish (used to be fluent and probably will be after two days down there as it is a primary language for me along with English.)  Anyone else going to be there during this time?  I see that folks are saying that just play FOD by ear but what do you do about the BB reservation then?  Can they just extend it or can you simply leave early?  Seems odd to me.  Also, are there specific times when you want to be at BB or FOD like for the Binkini comp?  Thanks guys and this has been one of the most informative sites.

blackbeards has their bikini contest every other Saturday at 3pm I think?  it is ok to see , once or twice.  pretty well pg rated.

fod , they have their bikini contest on Wednesdays I think.  it starts around, take a guess.  supposed to start around 4pm I think, not sure though. maybe somebody else can chime in. now, the fod contest, that can get wild, naked girls dancing, lesbo stuff, the whole nine yards.  then again, if there is not a crowd there (interpret that as money) it too can go pg rated.

as for booking a room, u pay in advance for your stay when u check in so if you were to leave early, it would be on your own dime.

btw, u can go to blackbeards website and see if they are having a bikini contest or ms. universe contest during your stay there.  also, post your upcoming trip on the calendar so others that will be in theater at the same time know that you will be there. it is a lot more fun having a wingman when on the ground for that long a period of time

  • FOD 4pm Dominican time so sometimes 5:30pm..  The last two I was at were not very good and the BB one was way better because the girls are prettier and depending who's in it determines how good.  For BB it would be Flor and FOD it would be Paola that usually win and get into it.. FOD used to have a second part that was a lesbian show but not last two I saw and most of the girls don't want to do it so the judges don't determine who remains in the next rounds or the winner.. The judges are just props and only really judge if their is the lesbian show.. At Blackbeards there are 3 rounds and it's more official because you determine who gets eliminated.. If your a judge of either be prepared to get wet!  Flor started pulling me toward the pool at BB and on my way I'm throwing every thing from my pockets toward the other judges.

  • Anyone who travels should know especially at DR.. Don't exchange at the airport.. Might offer 38-1 U.S. while Jenny's near BB offers 44.60 - 1.  I prefer 1k and 500 notes but use 2k toward over nights.  Doesn't matter if you exchange 20's or 100 U.S. It's the same rate.. I know when I went to Thailand 100's got the best rate and would go down with every denomination with 1's being the worse.  If you need Dominican Cialis they have Lapella which is much cheaper than the real thing at the Pharmacy near Yennys.. Disclaimer- Domincan Cialis might be riskier because no way to verify everything that's in it and possible side effect is Death!  But I've taken it three trips and I'm almost fine.. Lol

  • So on the topic of money, I am really considering a trip to BB either later this year or early next year.  I have tons of vacation time to burn and would love to just relax and live a fantasy for a week. Trying to figure out how much cash to take.  There are certain posts on here that talk about standard rates for the chicas but most of the posts I have seen are a bit dated.

I am thinking I would want 2 or 3 short term dates and then an overnight at night.  How much cash per day roughly do you think this would be?  Assuming a bit on the high end so I take enough.

Also, I am most certainly going to want to drink, what are the prices for beers at BB?

I hope I am asking in the right place.

I don't drink so I am not positive, but seems like beer is about $2,50 a bottle.

typically, I take 600+ a day, I bring about half of that back.  never know when u or a bud runs into some Dominican justice that takes bucks to make go away.  I believe in being prepared.  not to mention, I could not fathom making a trip home with a hundred or two in my pocket.

I have also more than once saw guys that were ill prepared money wise for the goings on in the DR and it was eat and drink or hit some snatch once a day.  I wont deny myself when I am on vacation.   while I don't toss money around, throw it away, idont worry about what I spend because I know I have plenty

u mentioned about 200 avg per day for pussy
if u drink ten beers, there is 25 bucks
eats, they cost similar to applebees so figure 25 -30 bucks a day
    room 70 plus a day
some cab fare avg. 20 a day

    misc. 20 a day

so that totals 365 a day, round it up to 400 x150% min for safety factor, u be good

remember, it is not a sin to return home with a wallet "half full" of bucks.  it will spend when u get back home just fine

Alright.
FOD bikini contest is Wed around 5PM.  BB bikini contest is Sat. 4PM every other week.  Look at their calendar at the BB website. BB also has events in the Disco on Thur,Fri,Sat nights. You do need to make reservations in advance for BB as they often sell out, especially on weekends.  When making reservations at FOD, you can get a 5% discount being an IFTC member. But FOD is usually wide open anytime without reservations.

  • Thank you ralphie for the great information.  I have been reading a lot of great information here.  I am not new to "hobbying" but haven't done a vacation that centered around the hobby.

  • There is a sign with beer prices at the entrance to the BB restaurant seating area.
