El Rancho & a tip on Rockys Sosua Suites Condos

  • I stayed at El Rancho Jan 31st to Feb 8.   I had their only apt.   The original price when I booked was $70.00 a day.    When I checked in, Mayala knocked it down to $65 a day.    Either way, that was still too much.    I only did it because I thought an apt would be a good idea.   A nice place to entertain, maybe have a small party with my buddies/chicas.   I never used the kitchen.   Or the two balconies that are on opposite ends of the apt.    The apt was nice overall though.    But the bed sucked.   It was noisy as hell.

The main value of an apt other than being able to cook, is not walking directly into your BR as soon as you open the door.    Another issue not too cool,  was that you had a steep set of stairs you had to climb to get to the apt.     Has anybody ever stayed at Seabreeze?    Well if you are in the pool area at Seabreeze and look to the left there is a set of wooden stairs you can see over the wall.   These are the same stairs leading to the apt of El Rancho.     Those stairs are a killer if you slip and fall.    One day the stairs were wet from rain, and I can see how someone can misstep and hurt themselves.    Or if you have to carry heavy luggage up or down those stairs thats a chore.

My buddy P stayed in a room next to El Rancho's pool.    Too damn small, and you could smell a damp odor.         If you need a decent sized room,  I would not recommend El Rancho.   Their rooms are too small,  the apt is overpriced and not convenient to get to.

I just booked for April at Rockys Sosua Suites Condos,   I will see if I can find a report here.   I will offer one after my stay there.    I did get a chance to see a guys unit back in Nov 2011 and thought it was pretty nice.     He gave me a tip , not to reserve a room at RSSC in the A or B section, choose the C or D section.   A & B are too close to the noise of the clubs.    I just booked and they honored my request for 2 rooms in the C & D sections.   The price now is $300 for a week, plus $30 a week mandatory for the cleaning staff.      $60 a day for every day after a week.

    Hope this helpful for someone.

  • Questions about RSSC:
We have been looking at all of the room choices through Rocky's web site.  They include the bungalows (appear to be behind the bar and seem like dumps),  the Mary Rose apts, a little ways from the strip,  the Villa (outside of town) and the two condos: RSSC and Trade Winds.  Ideally we want a two bedroom apt with a seperate living room so that my wingman and I can have our private time, but also gather with our guests all together.
Did you (or anyone, for that matter) get to RSSC?  How would you rate it?  Have you (or anyone) been to Trade Winds?  Finally, I wanted to know where RSSC and Trade Winds are on the map. The IFTC Google map of Sosua is awsome, but most of Rock'y lodging optins are not listed there.
Also,  I intend to submit a VERY details report of our trip to Sosua (10/8 - 10/12) and would be happy to update the Google map when I return if that is an option.
    As always, THANK YOU ALL!

  • I have to update the map.  I'll add those when I get a moment.  Send me a PM with your email address that you will use to edit the map and I can add you as an editor.

  • I spent two weeks in the Tradewinds this year, from 1/14-1/28. It was clean and quiet. The one I was in was 1BR, and very secure. Walk a couple of blocks and there was always a concho. Unexpected benefit was the pleasant breeze, and I never had to use the A/C. I was hoping for a little bit of a party, but there is a sign on the table by the pool warning against that. The WiFi was good and they cleaned it every day. All in all a little isolated, especially if you're on your own.
