  • Just curious how many of you are changing plans because of the Corona Virus.  Avoiding airports or planes as virus seems to be getting to pandemic levels although it really hasn't reached Columbia, Dominican Republic, or Costa Rica.  Also the concern seems to be among older dudes as the virus has worse outcomes for older guys and those compromised. Is anyone finding any cases in popular monger locations?

  • my understanding, at this point, those with weak or compromised immune systems are the most susceptible to the virus.  that typically is older people.

being in good health,(i can still get it up. lol)  :fuckbanana: :fuckbanana:   it would not scare me to make a run to the DR

  • According to the CDC, Colombia, Costa Rica and the DR have reported cases of Covid-19.  In the DR it is an Italian dude.

If you don't have a compromised respiratory system or some other ailment, it's just like getting the flu (as I understand it).

Personally, I wouldn't change my plans if I had them.

Good information Jethro.  Did not know about it spreading there.  I'm thinking if an Italian dude goes to DR, he's probably not going to some barrio.  He'll be at some tourist service industry.  A third world country like DR will not be able to handle an epidemic well.  The chicas at places like BB will be a main source of contact. Full physical contact. That just seems to be problematic to me that if one chica contracts it then sees 5 other customers in the day, it can spread pretty fast.  I'm guessing they don't even have test kits available there for Covid 19 and considering how quickly it has historically spread in countries like South Korea and Italy, far more advanced medically than DR, I would  have some concerns if I was elderly or compromised.

now dont jump to conclusions becuz, who knows what data fed putting a dot on that map.  those are the things one has to dig into, dont take it at face value.

i posted that to simply show concentrations some areas show as opposed to say, mexico.

i still am not a believer this is the virus to wipe out mankind.  all the "precautions" being taken are just that, it wont cure anything. heck, if they could cure this virus, they could cure the flu or the common cold.

i am not sure what they truly think they are doing.  they take the kids out of school, ok, i get it.  no place in the work that is a bigger petri dish than a school full of booger eating little kids.  ok, kids are out of school for 3-4 weeks to start.  what are the kids gonna do?  the older ones will be off to the mall, running all over gobblers knob.  if they truly want to slow the roll EVERYBODY needs to stop circulating.  that simply is not going to happen.

i dont see the virus as such a big deal as the press does. oh, it is out there, just not the deadly killer they say.  at risk now are elderly (that are afflicted with other ailments ) and those with compromised immune systems, (they also have many other ailments)  the virus will attack that group (and take some out) the same as the regular flu does.

at the end of the day, the only thing that truly is going to be killed is the economy.  hmmmmm, a political hack?  who does the media serve?

dont take anything at face value you hear or read. do your own research, pay attention to what is actually going on around you.  decide for yourself, dont let somebody else decide for you

  • I've been talking with Italian friends and they tell me about conversations they have with their relatives and friends in Italy who are going through hell with the country nearly shut down. Hospitals are over crowded  and treating people on a triage basis.  So the quarentines, testing, and other measures designed to keep the outbreak contained are justified. Normal mortality rates for covid19 are about 10 times that of normal flu but in Italy it is even higher estimated around 3%. I think common flu mortality is minimized in US because people at greater risk will get vaccinated. No vaccine for covid19 and highly contagious. Everybody stay safe

I was told by DR contacts that they are even taking some measure of containment in Puerto Plata.

  • ohio shut bars and restaurants down last night at 9pm.  michigan did the same this afternoon.

i talked to a friend of mine that lives north of detroit.  he said that they were mobilizing the national guard. said they were spotted rolling toward the airport.  guess we wait a few days to find out what that was about.

churches were told to close and anyplace a group of 100 people could gather are closed as well.

Are PM's wife actually has corona and now he is working himself in quarantine from a safe house. It's really starting to be a reality now , hard to believe. Hopefully we don't get as bad as Italy is.

  • Toronto introduced control measures similar to those discussed above.  Schools are shut until 5 April, but people are talking about reopening in September.  Bars Restaurants, all tourist attractions are shut down.  Gatherings of 50 or more are prohibited so no sports and even churches are closed.

  • I chatted with Mildre today.  She tells me the Puerto Plata hospital is full to overflowing with people with 'flu like symptoms who are awaiting test results.  That is probably the last place you want to go if you are sick.

The latest info I have is that DR has 21 confirmed cases, of which 20 are tourists who brought it with them and there is one case of local transmission.  This is a woman, who, once diagnosed was sent home to quarantine for 14 days.  A few hours later she was seen out shopping.  She is now confined to a local hospital.
