  • In a phased re-opening, airports are set to re-open during phase 4 which is July 1. Hotels should start re-opening as well.  This is what I'm being told from local sources.

  • so, anybody here know what is going on with the DR?  is july 1 still holding for commercial flights for tourists?

i emailed blackbeards to see if they have any kind of headsup yet as to when they may open as well

one of the guys has a flight purchased for august 1, so , that appears to be a go, as of now. i guess like with anything, things can change on the drop of a dime, either way, good or bad.

pity the poor saps the first couple weeks things start back up , tourist wise, in the DR.  guys will be like chum in shark infested waters. lol

  • What I have read recently through various new sources:

    -  Puerto Plata airport -- set to re-open July 4.
    -  Currency  -- The official rate on 26 May 2020 was RD$56 to US$1, but banks do not have US$ available to meet the demand.  Change houses are reportedly paying premium exchange rates (up to $57 pesos per dollar) to get US dollars.
    -  Curfew  --  Extended for another 12 days from June 1.
    -  Iberostar Hotels will begin opening starting July 17.  They are mostly in Punta Cana area.

I have a ticket bought for July,  we shall see.

  • thanks for the headsup jethro.  them doing the 14 day bump thing is not a good sign.  we have some states that are bumping along two weeks at a time, not sure they are ever gonna attempt the norm

the problem with bumping along like that, two bumps and another month is shot in the butt

i wonder if there could be any issues with having to shelter in place for 14 days after getting there or getting back if both ends dont decide in getting back to living normal?

  • That's my biggest fear -- a forced quarantine there or here.

My ticket has no change fees so its gonna be a game day decision.

I am holding a ticket for mid-August. I called American Airlines, and they gave me dates for when they resume flights. First flights back in are to Santo Domingo, Punta Cana, and Santiago. According to what the agent told me, they resume flights to POP on July 15 or 16 (don't recall which).

I agree that we have not heard whether a quarantine is required on either end, but that would be a "show stopper" for me. And before any of us go, we probably should know what other restrictions are in place (e.g., curfew hours if any, temperature checks which can be notoriously unreliable especially in the hands of inexperienced DR airport workers, open hotels and restaurants, etc.).

Like most of us, these tickets these days seem to be easily exchanged for later dates. I am HOPING that my mid-August trip is not too early. That is about 10 weeks out ...

And has anyone heard about when Blackbeards might re-open? Last that I saw was their letter that indicated that it was dubious that they would be re-open much before July or August. They have said that they are paying a substantial portion of the salaries for their workers, and still have some ongoing expenses (such as security and some maintenance). Which equates to expenses without income, which usually encourages things to get back up and running.

I am not sure how how much things that they depend on (such as food wholesalers and liquor distributors who keep the restaurant and bar running) are going to be re-opened. A pretty complex issue when you shut down a country that is a big island ...

I usually buy my DR pesos at my local Wells Fargo bank before I go, because they give me the current exchange rate (and I pay a $7.00 fee, no matter how much I buy). But the banks are closed for inside business, at least in Texas ... So we will all want to keep each other posted on exchanging money. But, I figure that I am in the "favorable" position of having US dollars (and wanting to buy DR pesos ...).

  • Blackbeards won't likely re-open until flights start up again, so I'm guessing not before mid-July.  Hotels are in phase 4 of the DR's re-opening plan which begins 7/1.  What I don't know is if the extensions of the state of emergency impact that plan, or if it only applies to the curfew.

A curfew is a deal breaker for me since I'm out and about at night (sometimes late).  For guys confined to a compound, not so bad.  I do know that there are drivers that have special permits to be out during curfew.  Maybe Miguel ?

I'm told most businesses are open or re-opening.

  • i got an email from rob at blackbeards today after i asked him when he thought bb's might be opening again.  here is his reply:

Unfortunately at this moment we do not have a definite time frame/date for when the hotel will re-open. We will confirm all future reservations and availability requests ASAP once we have a fixed date.

    Hope to see you soon....

  • Why in the world are some of you chomping at the bit to get down there so badly?

    Nevermind...I already know.

Look, we all love our Fantasy Island but to go down there just because you "can" doesn't seem like a good vacation get-away. I'm staying out of the DR for the remainder of the year until the north coast gets at least a couple of months of stable financial footing.

    Consider the following:
    1. Travel in June, July, August, and September is TOO. DAMN. HOT. It's called the "off season" for a reason. If you're OK with 98 degrees and 95% humidity then more power to ya. Me?...I demand air conditioning. How stable do you think the electrical grid is going to be for the first couple of months once when all these hotels/motels start coming back online? Hope you like extended rolling blackouts cuz that's exactly what's going to happen when the "all clear to open' sign comes out.

    2. Food. You don't know if some of these restaurants/bars/clubs are even going to be open. Many of those bars/restaurants on the strip were already struggling. What leads you to believe they'll be there when you step onto Pedro Clisante? It's the off season and with the few tourists around this time of year anyway why would they even open up? I'd figure most would just ride out until later in the Fall/Winter when the cost of doing business is a better bet.

    3. Girls. Why do some assume that these girls are just gonna open their pussy as a "first come/first serve" to any gringo that lands at POP? You have no idea what shenanigans these girls are going to pull. Don't assume that the usual rate you pay for pussy is the same that it's going to be when you hit the spot. Dominicans charge MORE in distressed times not less. These hoes don't take seminars in supply and demand. They figure if you're that desperate to be the first dick off that plane then you are the perfect sucker to pay top dollar. Guys gotta stop thinking these hoes are desperate. They're not! The best ones already pad their nest with Western Union simpfish coinage. The worst ones live with their moms/sisters/cousins and other extended family in the barrio. No, they're not doing great but they're not starving either. Hell, a bag of beans and rice can feed a family for a few days for what 200-300 pesos? C'mon now.

    4. Hotel. Is your hotel/AirBnB/Villa even going to be open and squared away? Do the toilets flush? Does the A/C work? Is that black mold growing in the bottom of the shower? DR hotels/resorts have been closed now for 2 months but you wanna be the dude ready to bust through the door for grand opening knowing full well that the entire staff just got there 3 minutes before you did...why?

    5. You're going to get hustled...a lot. They see your gringo ass on the strip before anyone else. Congratulations! You're the perfect MARK for every scam, hustler, pickpocket from every man, woman and child there. Look at you, you're everybody's "FREN" now. Have Fun!!!!

Fellas, we all love the Dominican pussy. But for hell's sake, don't put Dominican pussy ahead of your common sense.

  • something i would caution all of those of you that are going to lead the charge in getting back to the DR is to be mindful, very mindful, of your safety.

many expats in the DR and other countries such as columbia talk about how much things have changed concerning safety.  where they once felt safe, now, not so.

gringos are viewed as being rich and having a pocket full of pesos (we all have a pocket full of pesos, we dont walk around broke) and the locals are more than willing to relieve you of those pesos if given the chance.  the people of the DR have been without income for months now without much of a safety net

keep in mind where you are staying, the safety of the surrounding streets at night if you are prone to run around late night and give a second thought to venturing into the neighborhoods.  many of the people are at or coming to a desperation point.

also, if you rent a car and drive, give that some thought as well.  driving while gringo is a real thing in the DR and i cant help but think that could get a lot worse for the beginning of the return.

just be careful, rethink how you do things, where you go, etc... keep your safety first and foremost so you can arrive back home and let the rest of the world know how our little corner of paradise is doing

i could be all wet with my thoughts, but error on the safe side wont hurt a thing.

  • Good advice Ralphie and I would add that even though BB is a paradise for most of us, crime in Costamber was always a concern especially late at night.  A few people I know who live there (Canadian and US)  say that's why residents keep a dog for home surveillance and a gun in the house and that other communities in Puerto Plata are safer.

One chica says she was mugged late at night on her motorbike when someone came out of the bushes by Solo Mio and knocked her off her bike. She showed me the skinned bloodied knees, arms, and hands along with a lump on her head while at the local clinic. Those guards at the gate are not very vigilant.

  • Great as is I go to a club and chicas tell me that its a mafia bar and too dangerous for me, then the taxi driver tells me the same thing.  I neively just drink and have a good time then  wake up in my bed fully clothed with all my money and kidneys in tact.  I'm planning on changing things up and skip Blackbeards July 11th and fly into Santo Domingo and maybe spend a couple days in Punta Cana.  I've been using Tinder to line up some chicas before i go.

  • Even there may not be the safest Jedi. I read this about Dengue and malaria worst this year around Santo Domingo. In DR1:

All the attention is on Covid-19, but the Ministry of Public Health reminds the population to exercise measures to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds to reduce the possibility of catching dengue and malaria. In the first five months of this year, with everyone preoccupied with the coronavirus, there have been 560 cases of malaria reported in Greater Santo Domingo. Most of the cases reported are in the locations: Los Tres Brazos and other areas adjacent to the Ozama and isabela rivers in East Santo Domingo, North Santo Domingo, the National District (505 cases) and in La Cienega in West Santo Domingo.

The number of dengue fever cases in the first five months of the year is over 3,000, which is 1,000 more than for this same time of the year in 2019. The dengue cases are more widespread, with many cases located in Moca, La Vega, Pedernales, Santiago, East Santo Domingo and the National District.

  • with all my trips to DR i'd count myself lucky if i only caught Denghe fever!  I'm a bit of a germaphobe but when it comes to chicas i seem to dive right in tongue first.  I'll try to be carefull but that place is too powerful for my will power to not go.  I'm torn whether i want to stay in Santiago instead of Santo Domingo.  Even Punta Cana i can take a bus to because i do get bored during the day but if i stay the first few days in Santiago i can esily tax to Blackbeards if i don't have the stamina for the hunt.  Anyone else making the jump to go?

    Hola/Mabuhay Fellow Mongers,

While I am waiting for travel bans to begin to loosen a bit, I was going to post some photos of some pretty Filipina honeys. I have tried to write a new Trip Report, and have tried using Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. When I click the hyperlink "Attachments and other options", the "Add attachments" is "greyed out". No way to add some photos ...

Any help would be much appreciated !! I would normally say "these photos would keep you warm on a cold night", but it is Summer for all of us, so no need for that. I guess that the photos will merely make you HOTTER on a hot night ...

A few of you (like Ralphie and HuskerDude) may know that i am a physician who lives in Texas, and I have Mongered for about 20 years. After my wife died about 20 years ago, I pretty much assumed that I would never have sex again (mind you, she and I didn't have sex that much anyway). I had exactly ZERO interest in ever dating another American woman. So, I resigned myself to raising my two children (who were teenagers/soon-to-be teenagers), as that was the right first priority anyway. And I threw myself into my profession. And then, a friend I know (he lives in Houston) told me about this strange concept called "mongering".

At first, it seemed incredible. Voluptuous, beautiful young women around the world wanting desperately to have sex with me. And, mind you, these aren't sleezy, drug-infested, diseased old hookers. Nope. Beautiful 18-, or 19-, or 20-year-old women in various countries. Hard to believe.

He told me about a place in the Puerto Plata area called "Viking Resort" (they are since out of business - their website used to be "cat69.com", hmmm, that leaves little to the imagination). I eventually went there, and met beautiful, beautiful (stunningly beautiful) young Russian/Ukrainian/Belarusian girls. And from there I learned of Blackbeards. And my Houston friend introduced me to Thailand, where we both eventually purchased condos (side-by-side beachfront condos on the 24th floor of a new condo building in Pattaya - "good boys go to heaven, bad boys go to Pattaya").

I've mongered all over this world (DR, Thailand, Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Czech Republic, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, etc., etc.).

I now own another business (in addition to being a doctor in the U.S.) on my own - a medical services business. It is highly successful, and I have an office in Clark, Philippines (Angeles City - the Philippine equivalent of Pattaya). I have 16 employees in my Clark Office, and I was going over there about every 8 weeks (yep, flying across the Pacific for a 1-week stay about every 8 weeks).

I can seriously entertain you with multiple trip reports about my many, many times over there, but was going to start with at least a few photos of delicious young Filipinas who I have enjoyed many, many nights with.

But for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to attach a simple photo on this site. Any clues? Anyone?

Mongering will resume soon (I hope). We should have some good therapeutics and vaccines by late this year/early next year. Hang in there Fellow Mongers ...

they keep talking "vaccine" but that is all bs.  they dont even have a true vaccine for the flu, how are they going to come up with a vaccine for covid when they truly dont understand how it spreads, etc...???

i wont let the lack of a vaccine stop me.  now, if there are huge outbreaks, that could be a deal breaker.

sadly, we cant believe the numbers being reported stateside.  it has become so politicized they have made it look way worse than it is.  the bad part, they take away our ability to make risk decisions on our own, the numbers are too skewered.  they just want to tell us what to do. smh

  • Good thread guys.  I miss our paradise and I would love to get down there but the reality is that it’s a while away.

Here’s my two cents on the reopening and I manage a resort here on the states.

The first few months are going to be tough.  We can’t even run at peak occupancy here in the states and the cleaning/turning of rooms takes at least 48 hours.  Laundry and linens and common surfaces are an incredible challenge for any operation right now.

When a property sits for a while (especially an old one) things are more likely to break when they get turned back on.

For all those pioneers going down there early there are probably going to be a lot of headaches.  For the staff managing and working at these places they have their work cut out for them.

I’m going to be monitoring the updates but it’s going to be well into 2021 before I will likely return and that stinks.  I love the DR and especially Bb’s.

I emailed a few weeks back just to check in on everyone.  Haven’t heard back but I hope all of them are well.

I miss everyone that works there and those that I have met traveling over the years .

    Hey Marsman,
The surefire way to attach photos is Internet Explorer.  You can do it in Edge and Chrome as well but you have to go into the settings and allow FLASH.  This site uses FLASH for the attachment feature and many of the browsers don't like it.

In Chrome, go to Settings, Privacy and Security, Site Settings, Flash.  Move the slide bar so it turns on.  Close the browser and re-open it.  When you try to add an attachment you'll get a pop up to allow flash.  After that the site should be added in the allowed list as you see from my screenshot.

Hope that works!  Looking forward to reading your trip reports!  I used Chrome for this message so you can see it works.

  • I use internet explorer, but I'm a dumb ass when it comes to computers.  The only problem I have with posting pics is when my file size is too big. Resizing them helps.  :(
