  • Puerto Plata airport is to reopen 4 July  West Jet will resume its Toronto-Puerto Plata service on 7 July.  They propose to fly in the summer Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays i.e. their normal schedule.  But who will fly?

    1) they are charging $425 one way, which is far higher than the $615 return that I usually paid in the past.
    2) DR still has a relatively high infection rate.  The curve has flattened but is only reducing slightly, so the risk of infection is relatively high
    3) In Canada at least (I do not know the situation in USA) any returning Canadian has to submit to 14 days of self isolation which is enforced through daily phone calls and "surprise" visits by a public health nurse.

We will see what the uptake is.

  • Hi everyone.  I have been going through some old newsletters as I recall there was an email to reach El Captain.  I can no longer seem to find it.

I have the general BB’s email but looking to send him a quick note.  Let me know if anyone can provide.  Thanks in advance!

  • I was planning on flying into Santo Domingo on the 10th of July and back from Santiago on the 20th.  Flights seemed more expensive and limited.  I wanted to spend most of that time at Blackbeards but if my whatsapp is any indication the girls might be extra pushy after no work.  Latest email indicates no planned reopening.

  • Today's DR News contains an article on the reopening of airports on 1 July.  It says that the original announcement two or three weeks ago was an intention to reopen airports and tourist resorts on 1 July.  So far the government has not confirmed that nor have they issued protocols on cleaning, separation distances, masks etc.  The article ended by questioning whether or not the reopening would actually go ahead.  We will wait and see.

  • Costa Rica announced an opening of July 1st but now extended that to August 1st and might be restrictive and not allow from high infection countries like US.  Right now I’ve just reserved rooms in Santo Domingo DR that have free cancelation.  I’m planning on going to Costa Rica about September 14th but at this rate I’m going no where this year.

  • As far as the DR, the state of emergency was not renewed. It will expire on June 30 and the curfew will end.  Even though they delayed moving to phase 3 of their re-opening plan, all reports indicate that the tourism sector will re-open July 1.  The hotel association and the government have agreed on rules for protection of visitors.  Haven't seen anything official regarding arrival in the DR, temperature/health checks, immigration or customs.

In the DR masks are mandatory in public.

From CNBC:  American Airlines announced Friday that it will resume full flights starting July 1 amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The airline will continue to notify passengers when their planes are full and allow them to switch to less crowded flights at no extra cost through Sept. 30. Passengers with flights booked through Sept. 30 can also change their flights, including adjusting origin and destination cities, without incurring a travel change fee but will have to pay for any difference in the fare.

Starting June 30, American said it will begin asking customers during the flight check-in process whether they have been free of Covid-19 symptoms for the past 14 days. Travelers will be able to complete the coronavirus symptom checklist using self-service machines at airports or during online check-in.

    Hola Sir Jethro Gibbs,

Thank you, Sir !! And I just read online that as of 05:00 am on June 28 (Sunday), the curfew ends. This officially brings them fully into Phase III.

Phase IV, which is scheduled (BUT I AM AWAITING READING IT MYSELF) to begin on July 1, which means that the airports re-open. I have not heard exact dates for all airlines, but when I spoke with an American Airlines representative at the Executive Platinum number, she said that they resume flights to D.R. on "July 5" (or maybe she said July 6 - don't recall which) to Santo Domingo and Punta Cana first, and then to Puerto Plata (something like July 14).

I still have my mid-August ticket, and am hoping that by then things will be a little more open, a little more settled. Not sure that I would want to be the first passenger into D.R. Just sayin ...

I still have heard no word on BB, but expect to hear that they will re-open sometime later in July??? Only IMHO (I have NO facts on this).

  • Take this with a grain of salt, subject to, subject to, blah blah....

I have a ticket to Santiago on 7/8 and know someone that has a ticket to Puerto Plata on 7/10 on American.

I know an American flight attendant who is scheduled to work DR trips beginning 7/8 out of Miami.  In fact she is working my Santiago flight.

While I don't have any inside info on Blackbeards, my guess is they are waiting for flights to resume before they make an official decision on re-opening.

Interestingly enough supposedly Jet Blue is already flying into Santiago from the NY area.  Go figure.

  • As far as I know there is no confirmation that flights can resume on 1 July  The original government announcement said that "it was their intention to open the airports on 1 July".  There is an election on 5 July and if the polls are correct the government may change.  It would be an interesting twist to see the old government open the airports and then a new government close them.  Buyer beware.

    Mabuhay/Hola/Sawasdee Fellow Mongers !!

Well, first, there are MANY weblinks to announcements of the PLANNED re-opening of DR, such as:

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

And you can find many more. But because of all of OUR confusion and uncertainty, I simply called the Consulate of the Dominican Republic (they have a number of them in the U.S., so I took 2 minutes out of a very busy day here in the clinic to simply call the one in Chicago - I live in Texas but there isn't one in Texas) and spoke with a Consulate Officer.

    She said:

TRAVEL FROM THE UNITED STATES IS ALLOWED EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2020. The visa requirements are the same as before (e.g., we don't need a visa if we have a U.S. passport).

I figure that it is "not a rumor" when I hear it directly from a consular officer.

Mongers, it looks like D.R. is back open again. Now, about hotels, well, you will have to figure that one out for yourselves. My ticket is for mid-August, so I am hoping that (a) many things will be re-open by then (I am guessing that re-opening will take some time, because tourism will be slow to return for a few weeks) and (b) there should be hotels and resorts available by then.

    You're welcome.

  • Yes you are right DR Government confirmed that they are reopening airports as of 1 July.

In one way I am surprised as cases of Covid-19 have spiked in recent days in DR and cases in USA (their biggest travel market) are going through the roof.  I guess they need the dollars and the government is willing to risk anything.  The other aspect is the Presidential and other elections are on 5 July and if the polls are to be believed the Government is going down to defeat.  So more covid cases when they happen in one, two months time can be blamed on the new government.

    Mabuhay Hola Big Boy,

You are correct that cases of the corona virus are increasing in both places.

Perhaps DR is looking at this in the same way that I am looking at it: in even the most highly-controlled, monitored, locked-down society on all of the Earth (China, where tens of millions of cameras monitor everything, even going to work is closely monitored, every call and every text is controlled, etc.), they have been unable to contain the outbreaks (which keep popping up - for all intents and purposes Beijing is basically locked down now). Locking down, closing borders, stopping the economy, etc. may have some temporary effect. But their biggest effects seem to be on the economy.

Mind you, as a physician I am not urging mass gatherings. And although I know that we all hate wearing masks, they do have benefits.

But the idea that by limiting international travel (or even local travel) we will control this virus is, well, fallacy.

And, yes, I agree with you: their economy has suffered mightily. They probably cannot afford to keep it closed any longer (it may instill social upheaval if they do).

  • people are going to get the flu, the same, people are going to get covid19.  it is inevitable.  we can hide out, quarantine, but that does not mean we wont get the flu, or covid.

the quarantine was all about blunting the peak of infections to give the hospitals a chance and not be inundated.  it worked, too well maybe even.

the only way to beat this is herd immunity or a vaccine. hiding out is not going to work, it will find you.

now that all said, due diligence is required.  i.e. be aware of large crowds, sanitation efforts, etc...  that last thought might leave the DR out of the equation. lol

we might all surprise ourselves, if we were tested, and find that we already had covid or have antibodies present in our bodies.   that is part of the rise, so many people running out now and being tested with many positive results. testing was not so available in the past months.

also adding to the confusion is the skewered reporting of covid by hospitals and caregivers.  we do not have a true baseline to compare anything to.  that line has been very political , hospitals being reimbursed for covid patients (it is in their interest to have covid patients) and anything now is based on a skewered data

at the end of the day, we as mongers have to root out what we determine to be the truth with covid and risks involved and make our own decision based on our risk tolerance, age group, health, etc...

upon hearing of a covid hotspot, a big rise in numbers, i asked  a doctor from that area about two things i would base decisions on, is there a huge corresponding increase in deaths and are the ICU's full.  i was told a BIG NEGATIVE.  figure it out

just an fyi, i am not a follower.  if you want me to do something, give me solid reasons that can be backed up with facts and i will consider.

  • I'm changing my routine a bit.  I am mostly going to see known chicas who I feel comfortable with as far as their covid precautions.  I'm trying to avoid new talent but I do have 2 lined up.  We'll see.

Truthfully my biggest fear is the two hours with someone within 2 feet of me in almost every direction -- the airplane.

I stay at a family home and mostly eat there so I can control sanitation.  I don't do beaches, clubs, bars or other crowded locales.  I have access to a vehicle.

I will hit La Sirena when they first open,  Jenny's to change money.  Cabañas for sex (which are typically disnfected with bleach in between rentals), plus I will spray them down with lysol.

I will wear a mask at all times in public, maintain social distance and wash hands frequently.  TSA is allowing up to 12 oz of hand sanitizer through security along with disinfectant wipes.

If after all that I get Covid there, it'll be because of an asymptomatic 20-30 year old.

  • Getting on a plane & the airport I think is most dangerous. I would wear a N95 or better on the plane.  I now wear a mask that's like 99.7% whenever I get out to the stores.

I'm changing things up too. I'll get there July 11th to July 20th if all goes well. Usually i stick to the ease of Blackbeards but i just booked the JW Marriot for 4 days in Santo Domingo.  Flyiing into Santo Domingo then i will stay 2 days in Santiago.  I connected with alot of girls on Dominican Cupid and Tinder.  If they push a video call always point the camera to the ceiling.. i got 3 that tried the porn scam where they play a porn video and try to get you on cam to blackmail.  Then of coarse money for Baby, internet or food.  The 3 out of 30 that don't ask for anything i will meet when i go.  After Santiago maybe i will finish 3 days at Blackbeards and fly back from STI.  So far the girls i plan to meet made it clear they are not looking for any money but it will be a different story when i get there.

I'm changing my routine a bit.

So far the girls i plan to meet made it clear they are not looking for any money but it will be a different story when i get there.
the fact they say they arent looking for money plays a couple of ways.

for starters, is massages their feelings that they are not a puta and you wont think she is.    then when you get there, the rent is due, baby needs medicine, no food, second child needs an operation and so on.

the fact that she has sex with you and you give her money does not make her a whore because you are giving the money for a myriad of reasons , some mentioned above.

if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck...

  • i know the routine but when your away from Blackbeards it costs the more for an hour than it does for an overnight at Blackbeards.  This way I've built a little more of a relationship.  So far I've refused any requests to pay their cable bill so they could video call me or for baby food so I've weeded out alot.  Reverse photo lookup i found some scammers using fake photos... this one used a photo in a gym with English writing on the wall.  I called her out on it quickly.  I'm also getting decent hotel rooms but with the Pandemic the poverty, crime and scammers are at an all time high.  If they insist on a video chat never show yourself on camera until you know its really her and Paypal has made it way too easy, no more western union trips.  I'm so used to the laid back Blackbeards this time I will be in Santo Domingo and Santiago mostly.  Hopefully everything is open.. I checked out their Covid and they say its bad but they have almost twice the population of Massachusetts with less than a 1/3 of the infection and much less dead.

Mabuhay/Hola/Sawasdee Jedicobra500, Jethro Gibbs, and Sir Ralphie !!

Thanks, Jedi and Jethro, for sharing your plans. I have travel booked for mid-August, and am hoping by then that things are a bit more "settled out" (like more restaurants open, more beaches open, more hotels open). My plans are to spend the time in the Puerto Plata area.

I have four or five "regular chicas" who are all wanting to stay all of the nights with me, so I will have to "divide up" my time. All are very liberal with me in their "sexual offerings", and I've known each of them for at least 2-3 years (several I have known for more than 5 years) and have been with each multiple times. So I know that I will be highly satisfied, and won't have to "prowl the bars, or the streets, or even BB chicas" (although that might be possible).

My one question at this point is where I stay. It is really hard to beat Blackbeards for convenience (has its own pretty good restaurant and bar, has chicas) and price. But they seem to be opening at their own rate, which is, of course, their choice. My plan is to "lock down my hotel/villa" in the next 2 weeks (about 4 weeks before I go). Blackbeards needs to get their "rear in gear", or I will just simply pass them by. My thoughts and choices include:

Hotel Ultravioleta: in the Cabarete area, truly one of the most beauitful places to stay in the POP area. It is "on the point" where the beach is out the furthest in Cabarete, and it is a wind kite surfer paradise (I do a little of that). Also, very convenient for the beaches in Cabarete, and outdoor restaurants there. And since I have my own Dominicanas, then no worries there. Their rooms are ultra-modern, and ultra-clean.

Blackbeards: We all know this choice. It also offers things to do like going into POP where there are several of my favorite dining places, including Mares (seafood, seafood, seafood, with outdoor seating which I want) and La Tarappa. And with their pool and jacuzzi and a "second rate beach" close by, and our standard favorite of Sole Mio nearby, there is no chance of boredom here.

Casa Valeria: in Sosua. I love this small hotel. Very private. Very clean. Very nice. A great restaurant. Really nice people. But it is in "So-Sewer", and I don't much care for the town. Still, you can go to the beach there. And just relax around their pool.

Private Villas: I know the owners of two "private villas" that cater to VERY HIGH END tastes. The villas are truly world-class places to stay (4 or 5 star) with only a few rooms. They are very expensive, because they offer high-end Dominicans as well as high-end Europeans. However, because I know both owners, and don't need a lady companion, they are each offering me a very slimmed down price because it will just be me and my lady enjoying their food, and lovely scenery. Very private places each of them. They are each between Sosua and Cabarete, on the beach. Again, their standard rates are quite high, but I don't need their girls, just one of their villa rooms.

So now I just wait a bit, Fellow Mongers. If I don't hear any announcements from Blackbeards soon, then they can just keep their rooms, and I will reserve somewhere else. I figure that I am a very good guest, always quite generous, and potential repeat business (also have a ticket for mid-October). If they don't need my $$$, then there are others in the area who do !!

I got my plan working, and nearly complete.

Thanks, again, Fellow Mongers (Jedi, Jethro, and Ralphie) for your thoughts.

  • Marsman,

I went to this restaurant called Los Tres Cocos which is fairly close to Costambar (Blackbeards). Now it was 2 years ago so no guarantees, but it was mostly outside dining, very romantic.  Food was excellent!

Google "los tres cocos puerto plata" and you'll get some Tripadvisor reviews and photos.

  • There has been some speculation about new requirements for entry into the DR.  I saw an interview with an official from the Santiago airport where he said that all arriving passengers will be thermographically scanned for temperature and if 38 celsius (100.4F) and above, you will be whisked away by a public health doctor who will administer an instant Covid-19 test.  They didn't really elaborate into what happens after that.

    Mabuhay/Hola Sir Jethro Gibbs,

Thank you for the information. Thermal scanning/imaging is done in many international airports (I have never understood why the U.S. doesn't do it). In many of them, they use multiple cameras, and anyone with a higher than normal "heat signature" is pulled out of the line (for either going to the Transfer Area to go from one international flight to the next, or for going to Immigration to enter the country). And the 38 degrees Centigrade is pretty standard.

I am actually hoping that DR does their business this way, too. It makes sense to some degree (no pun intended). We do it in our clinics for all patients.
