  • Yea, in Feb it was dead due to how long it took em to remodel, plus i was told on the street that some city officials were helping the owners of D'Latin fuck up the business of Classicos, if i remember correctly. The only time it was poppin off was for the Valentines Day party they have every year. Who knows, maybe their back in business as we speak. Maybe someone who just came back recently can give us a proper update on the place.

  • I was down there April 17-26 and they were only open one night and that was because there was a big group in town for the Casa Cayena party and I think they opened up just for them.

Anyone could go in but they still had their silly little 100RD cover charge.

I have my personal boycott against this place as long as they still have the cover charge and the highest drink prices in town.

Take your party to El Toro, they have a disco, good music and drink prices.
Even better start coaxing some of the chicas there and pretty soon there will be plenty of chicas to choose from.

Was just down there for 10 days and it was not open a single night I was there.
There is no apparent construction going on either.

Even Merengue downstairs is dead most of the time.  I don't get what happened here as this place was always hopping with action perhaps it was a staging area for Classicos and since it is not operating no one goes there either.

  • Folks
What is happening a classico is  2 things

    1) the Deputy mayor owns both Classico and D"latino so he doesn't care which place is bring in the customers

    2) Second the Chica's don't want to pay the cover at classico's.  the Sousa bars are driven by one thing and only one thing, who has the hotest and the largest number of Chica's. right now that happens to be D'latino's

Makes you wonder why the DM spent the money to remodel Classico's and the bar below Menegre?

u pretty well nailed it j_d

the gals went to the merengue hoping to be invited upstairs by some monger paying her way.   others hung out downstairs hoping to snag a guy before he went up or when he came down alone.

without classicos, merengue is just another bar on the strip.  nothing there to really draw any body in other than the fact of its history or where it is, but... even that isnt enough. now, it is just another bar without classicos going full blast

Downstairs had about 12 chicas in it most nights and the upstairs didn't open at all May 27th to June 7th.

D'Latins seemed to be the only game in town after 10pm while I was there. I don't know if this changes in the high season.

  • Not that they tend to do things logically but it would make sense to open classico's on a saturday night with no cover charge.  It is now technically low season and D Latin is just to busy on a Saturday night.  They are so packed in there that you can not reasonably function and forget trying to dance in there.  Plus in July and August it gets hot there so a place with A/C would be a real draw.

I have pretty much decided to stay out of D Latins on a Saturday night and hang somewhere else.  There are plenty of chicas to choose from and there is no need to fight the crowds trying to score a chica there.

  • If classicos were open smart chicas (high end girls) would pay the entry knowing they would be taken out. You could create a two tier system with the hottest girls being in Classicos and the gringos would pay a premium that would offset the entry cost. It creates a cachet for the chicas that drives their prices up. The gringos would happily pay (and did) to go into a nicer place with a real dance floor and air conditioning. They just require the presence of the girls.

Of course, it'll never happen naturally, but I've seen this kind of thing created elsewhere.
