Pre-trip advice, semi-newbie here.

  • It's been 8 years since the last time I was in DR. During that time I had a wingman with me who had experience with Sousa area. I'm going back for the first time since 2006, this time traveling solo, so a little nervous, so I figured I will post my trip plan, and some of you more experienced monger can critique the plan and provide any tips or advice. I think I have a solid plan and been reading plenty of trip reports and taking notes but I could be missing something. What I learned 8 years ago is to dress like the locals, I look like a Dominican so that will help keep the criminals from targeting me. Although my Spanish is horrible, I know just enough to get by. Copa airlines flys to Santiago from Tampa so that's why I'm flying into STI.  also, they layover in Panamá City, Panamá and I've been there several times so I figure I'll stay and play in Panamá for a day, then head over to DR. I also know that Panamá chicas charge damn near 3 times as much as in DR, so I'm not planning on any  sessions in Panamá. Now if there a chica that looks like Shakira, then maybe lol. That being said here's the plan:

Thursday depart Tampa 8am, arrive Panamá 10am. Catch shuttle that will take me to my hotel which is a block from the Veneto Casino (chicas can be found all over this place). The hotel I'm staying at has hot-water, wireless, and free breakfast. Real breakfast not that continental bullshit. For $25 a night  ;D . While in Panamá I will just do some sight seeing and let the chicas try to take my money (again, no sessions unless Shakira, Eva Mendez look a likes), hang out at the casino and relax. No staying up late still in transit.

Friday have breakfast, take shuttle to airport depart Panamá 1130am, arrive STI 258pm. As vdubman advised, take 700 peso cab to cambio house and exchange my dinero, proceed to Caribe Tours to catch bus to Puerto Plata. There's a bus every hour until 830pm, so I should be good. (Take taxi to FOD, worst case scenario). Once in Puerto Plata, I should be able to moto concho to FOD, seeing as I will be only carrying a back pack and one small carry on. OR call up FOD and tell them to pick my brown ass up :)   For this short stay I only plan on bringing $1000 cash but only exchange $500 and use the remaining $500 for back up. I'll also bring 2 debit cards, each from different banks for unexpected emergencies $$$. Last time I was there, went to banco popular and withdrew money as I needed it. Lessened learned from doing that is my wingman was departing a day before me, that day a ATM ate my card and I couldn't get it back because everything was closed. Luckily my boy didn't not depart yet and loaned me some cash to get me by for the rest of my stay. If that would have happened after he left, I would have been fucked! As I would not have enough dinero to get to the airport!!! So that's why the 2 debit cards from diff banks.

I plan on having 3 TLNs, one possible happy hour spread out between Friday and leave Monday. Not planning on partying hard, I just want to relax at the beach, so with chicas, food (I'm no foodie), transportation, dick meds (by the way, where do I get them?), and incidentals I "should" be able to keep it under $500 when I depart that Monday  ;D  any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Victo, try to avoid using the debit cards.  If you do, only use them at a reputable bank.
As for dick meds, don't get suckered into paying more than 50 pesos for each pill.
In my opinion, Sosua has changed for the worse over the years, with many places closed.
If you like the beach, maybe BB's would be better than FOD, although a guy I met at FOD went to a beach not far from FOD.
Rather than take a moto from Caribe Tours, there are public taxis that are super cheap that pass right by there and continue along the main road to FOD.

  • Regarding dick meds.

Generic Cialis/Viagra will be cheap. 50/100 pesos per pill depending where you buy.

American made brands of Cialis and Viagra go for about $10 a pill.

I'm sure generics are fine, I just feel more comfortable with the american brand. My personal preference.

Husker might be able to speak on the differences. I read here he was a pharmacist?

  • Just so you know-you can buy real cialis by the pill in DR. This really surprised me when I found out several trips ago that you don`t have to buy the whole 4-pack, you can buy just one pill if you want. I find this ideal because I recomend using only about 1/4 per day or 1/2 every other day for best results. I found this out in Santo Domingo when my chica went to a farmacia and bought "one" perscription pill for heartburn after a nite of tequila shots -lol.

  • Didn't know you could buy singles. I bought 4 pills and only used 2 over 15 days. Nibbled a quarter every 3rd day.

  • Advise bringing cash and avoid using debit cards. Also for dick meds, buy the generics! No need to pay for the real stuff cause generics are just as good. That goes for most drugs too, not just dick meds.

  • Victo - Great idea coming here asking for advice!!   :)

I think you have learned a lot from this board because you seem like ur all set.

What i would do is go to the Calender section and see if anyone else is going same time as you and try to hook up with each other by shooting him a pm or a message on the board.

About ur Panama trip please take as many photos as u can and any hotel info and such would be great as we are trying to add more info to our Panama section.  Even if the photos are touristy that is ok.

I agree with Husker,  take case and only use debit cards as a back up - Call those banks of the cards ur taking and inform them your going to the Dom Rep so they are aware because dom rep usually triggers Fraud alerts for banks and automatic close ur card down.  Banco popular is a well trusted bank.  There is also a Good ATM right across the street at Playa Doroda complex i have used a couple times and had no problem

Lastly have a GREAT FUCKING TIME - I hope you can make it to our Feb Party - would love to meet u

  • Carlos, took me to the Playa Dorada ATM.

Felt like I was at the ATM around the corner from my house except that it spat out pesos.

    Es muy facil!
