  • ever since the tsa was put in place after 9-11 there has always been some mystery as to what is allowed and not allowed in luggage, checked, and carry on.

in my travels, when packing shirts i simply remove the shirt, hanger and all from my closet and place them in my carry on.   by doing so, my shirts stay nicer, i can remove them and put them, hanger and all, in the closet upon arrival.

for the first time in 19 years, i had them pull my carry on for inspection and take the metal hangers out of my shirts.  that was the only thing they had a problem with.

any of you ever run into this?   i have flown a fair amount since christmas, been through tsa security with the same deal, shirts on hangers, no problems, until last week.

  • LOL, who has metal hangers except you?  Those machines detect metal & those hangers can be used as weapons, like knifes, scissors, etc

who buys hangers?    i used to get work clothes from a clean wear company and every week i got 10 metal hangers.   you will find, clothes stay put on a metal hanger as opposed to something plastic, they are always sliding off.

i have some plastic hangers and i dont like them.  slacks slide right off in time.

According to that website "coat hangers" are ok in both carry-on and checked baggage.

Lithium batteries are generally not allowed in checked baggage.

  • I always fly with metal coat hangers.  Pro tip here:

Take your shirts to dry cleaners and they will put on metal hanger and in plastic bag.  Fold bag with shirts and hangars in your luggage and they are perfect when you arrive.
