Well we all have heard of these assholes getting a bug up their ass and the politicians trying to make themselves look like they give a damn. Well they really went to the next level with this next statement that came out today.

Does this mean that someday then end of the really wild times of dr are over

Soliciting prostitutes outlawed in Dominican Republic

Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito has announced that soliciting the services of a prostitute in the Dominican Republic is now against the law. The authorities have been tolerant towards prostitution in the past. Dominguez Brito announced that men caught soliciting the services of a prostitute would be arrested and files on them would be recorded in the judiciary.

Dominguez Brito said that the government would intervene in prostitution centers that are located on George Washington (Malecon), Sarasota, Duarte, and Ortega y Gasset avenues in Santo Domingo and Calle Del Sol in Santiago. "Whoever takes advantage of the poverty of a woman in a situation of vulnerability, the law establishes clearly and rates this as pimping," said Dominguez.

He made the statement during the Corripio Communications Group Weekly Luncheon event, which was also attended by Major General Jose Armando Polanco Gomez, Minister of Interior and Police Jose Ramon Fadul and deputy minister of Interior and Police Washington Gonzalez.

Dominguez Brito said they would not be penalizing sex workers, as reported in El Dia. The attorney general said that his office would be sending people to patrol the areas, "so that people know they are there." Dominguez Brito clarified only the clients would be arrested and sent to justice, not the prostitutes.

How i see it is this.

Here in the united states prostitution is a problem because with it it brings pimps, drugs, crime and other bad elements.

Over there our money we give the girls goes right back into the economy and that helps fuel other businesses.

We pay a chica here they buy drugs which leads to crime.

We pay a chica there they get their hair done, buy cell phones, food, clothes, support their families and other business which in turn helps their families out as well. Take that away and business will close and more jobless people and things only go down hill from there.

I hope this is just a publicity stunt

Well, we've seen stuff like this before... I've been going down to the DR for 7 years now. Every once in a while a politico gets a bee in his/her bonnet, make a big fuss. Then within a few months, its business as usual. I would think FoD and BBs would be OK. Remember, an officer of the law would have to see you negotiate with the woman to have proof. And I bet the guys at FoD & BBs know all the local police. (And are probably friends with them...) Sure, if the cops WANT to screw with you, they can. But that is always the case. Just keep your cool and be prepared to give a propina (when ASKED! never offer it!! you could get yourself in serious shit that way if they happen to be one of the few overly virtuous cops) – you'll probably be fine

The recent government policy statements about wanting to eradicate solicitation have been primarily aimed at stopping the practice of males from soliciting sexual services from women in the open. The DR, rapidly developing a reputation as a sex-vacation destination, has allowed a pervasive environment of open solicitation, something that local women find repressive (when approached by men asking for sex) and local authorities find disgraceful.

In an attempt to stop the situation, solicitation...not prostitution itself...has been targeted. Furthermore, like many governments that are willing to tolerate prostitution but do not want it out in the open, there is a desire to foster an 'out of sight, out of mind' situation.

The FOD is legally registered with the local tourism bureau and the Politor (tourist police) as an adult resort. We pay all our taxes as such an establishment and while probably not encouraged by the local government as a business model that they would like to incubate, we are accepted and have had no issues.

We do NOT pay any bribes or donate any funds to ANY police or permit issuing authorities other than the legally prescribed fees that any hotel must pay. Paying bribes is a slippery slope...it keeps the cops away but also tacitly shows that you feel that you are operating an illegal business. As we are strictly legal (there is no open solicitation done at the hotel), I refuse to even consider paying bribes. I prefer to use attorneys.

To date, even after our last inspection by the hotel bureau, we are in full compliance with all laws and have not been notified of any potential infractions.

It is business as usual. Just a suggestion, though...if you do ever see a cop having a beer at the FOD (they do come and ogle the girls), please do NOT ask him how much a blowjob would cost.

A couple of weeks ago I returned from a fortnight in Sosua where I enjoyed some magnificent GFE's with four of the street girls along with a two day side trip to Blackbeard's just for good measure.
At no time in Sosua did I experience or witness any Police intimidatory behaviour. On the contrary, many times punters and sex workers were having plenty of banter with the heavily armed patrolmen.....the scene in D'latins from midnight to 0300 is of a magnitude like nothing else I have ever witnessed in the Western Hemisphere.

I can not see that changing anytime soon unless extreme legislation and policing is enforced or as would seem more likely, the strip of a dozen or so bars in Sosua are given orders to cease trading under their current license.
